Sink Zero

The dreaded sink backup. The plates in the dishwasher are sparkling clean and we’re too busy to unload them, so we just stack the dirty dishes in the sink.

There’s already one plate in there, so what’s the harm in adding one more?

OH THE HUMANITY!

How we’re trying to fix it

Here’s how my fiancĂ© and I are solving the problem: We don’t abandon a single dish in the sink. If we use a mug for coffee, we rinse it out and put it in the dishwasher. Immediately.

If the dishwasher is full, we empty it. There’s no excuse for not putting our dishes away. It takes 3 minutes and 12 seconds to empty a dishwasher.

If we’re in the middle of cooking, we’ll pile ’em up. As soon as we’re done eating, those dishes get rinsed and put in the dishwasher by the person who didn’t do the cooking. That’s our little deal to help each other out.
